The Austin 1800 Automatic Mk II was a variant of the Mk II series, offering the convenience of an automatic transmission alongside the model’s signature spaciousness and comfort. Introduced in the late 1960s, it retained the same practical and innovative design as the manual version but was fitted with a Borg-Warner Type 35 three-speed automatic gearbox, making it an appealing choice for drivers who preferred an effortless driving experience.

Like the standard Mk II, it featured a revised front grille, improved interior materials, and a more refined dashboard layout. The Hydrolastic suspension system provided a smooth and stable ride, while the 1.8-liter B-series engine delivered adequate power, although acceleration was slightly reduced due to the automatic transmission.

Despite being well-built and comfortable, the automatic variant was not as popular as the manual due to the preference for manual transmissions in the UK market at the time. However, it found a niche among those who valued convenience over performance. Production continued until the early 1970s before the model was replaced by the Austin 1800 Mk III.
