Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire 346 Mk II
The Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire 346 Mk II was an updated version of the original Sapphire 346, offering enhanced performance and refinement. Introduced in the mid-1950s, it retained the same fundamental design but featured improvements in engineering and luxury to compete with other high-end British automobiles of the era.
Powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six engine, the Mk II version benefited from refined carburetion and tuning, producing improved power and smoother operation. The car was available with either Armstrong Siddeley’s signature pre-selector gearbox or an optional Rolls-Royce-derived Hydramatic automatic transmission, providing effortless driving characteristics. Its suspension and braking systems were also refined for better ride comfort and handling.
The design remained elegant and stately, with a distinctive upright grille, flowing bodywork, and a well-proportioned saloon silhouette. Inside, the cabin featured the finest materials, including high-quality leather upholstery and polished wood trim, ensuring a luxurious experience for both driver and passengers.
Well-regarded for its reliability, craftsmanship, and dignified presence on the road, the Sapphire 346 Mk II solidified Armstrong Siddeley’s reputation for producing high-quality luxury automobiles. Today, it is considered a desirable classic, appreciated for its blend of performance, comfort, and timeless British design.
